The development of broadcasting in Montenegro has been long and can be linked to building the first radio-telegraphic station at the Volujica near Bar, in the year 1904 as agreed upon by the Government of Prince Nicholas and Italian inventor of wireless radiotelegraphy Guglielmo Marconi.
Broadcasting Centre was established as an integral part of the Radio-Television of Montenegro, titled: "Emitting technology and communications." It operated in such a structure until 1995 when it became part of the former state owned company: PT of Montenegro, as a separate department.
Since the year 2003 The Broadcasting Centre has become separated and was founded as a company by the decision of the Government of Montenegro which was a founder.
The activity of broadcasting center is to provide access to electronic communication networks and to provide electronic communication services. Center provides distribution and transmitting of the national public service - RTV Montenegro, renting infrastructure capacity for electronic communication operators, emitters and other users in Montenegro, and provides distribution and transmitting of radio and television programs, as well as interconnection services to all categories of users, via radio relay distribution systems;
RDC is about to start implementation of the project of transmitting digital television signals in Montenegro. DVB - T2 is selected for the transmitting standard. Although countries in the region generally apply standard DVB-T, the RDC decided to adopt the most recent technological solution which, in the most efficient way, uses the available spectrum and enables transmitting of ten or more different television programs on one UHF frequency channel of 8MHz width. The deadline for implementation of the project is the year 2012th.
RDC has two transmitting centers (Lovcen and Bjelasica), with a permanent specialized teams to support. Broadcasting system includes 132 locations and involves a complex and efficient organization. Such a system provides coverage of 98% of territory with the signals of Radio Television of Montenegro (RTCG1 and RTCG2).
RDC has a modern digital distribution system based on SDH and PDH microwave radio-relay links, which has been operational since mid-2008.
Minimum capacity of SDH links is 1xSTM-1, while the access interface is Gigabit Ethernet, so that this distribution system, in essence, makes a single IP network, while routing and switching are implemented by using Cisco 3560 Layer 3 Switches. The system is designed to connect a large number of transmission sites, distribution of digital signals of TV and radio programs, future digital services (DVB-T and DAB), Internet services, as well as the distribution of other types of data, centralized system of monitoring and remote management of network elements, network capacity needed for current and future needs of RDC, as well as for transferring of a part of capacity of the distribution system to other users, on commercial terms. In addition, the system has the ability to easily expand or increase its capacity.
Users of the RDC’s services are Telenor, Crnogorski Telekom , M-Tel, Atlas TV, TV Vijesti, TV Pink, Pro TV, TV IN, TV Elmag, Seismological Bureau, Police Department and many others.
